THUNDER BAY -- A locally produced documentary is showing how a global economy has affects in small towns all over the world, including in Northwestern Ontario.

The Bay Street Film Festival will show “Pulp Friction: People, Places and the Global Economy” on Thursday as part of their Docs on Bay monthly documentary screening series.

The film, which was directed by Lakehead University history professor Ron Harpelle, examines the power of globalization on communities in Terrace Bay, Kemijarvi, Finland and Fray Bentos, Uruguay.

The three towns are highlighted for their reliance upon single industry and the impacts world markets can have on people in those individual communities.

Following the movie there will be a discussion with Harpelle and Gino LeBlanc, a Terrace Bay councillor who has spent more than 30 years working in mills.

The screening will start at 8 p.m. above the Hoito Restaurant with tickets costing $8.  More information is available online.
