THUNDER BAY -- A popular science exhibit is coming north this summer.

Science North announced Friday that it's bringing Wildlife Rescue, an interactive multimedia exhibition that focuses on animals around the world and efforts to protect habitat, to four Northern cities including Thunder Bay.

Science North CEO Guy Labine said the Sudbury-based organization has a mandate to bring science to all of Northern Ontario and this is one way to help expand that idea.

"Our goal is to inspire life-long learning in science with our audience," he said at Silver City in Thunder Bay as local students watched two Science North-produced films.

He's hoping the exhibit will attract locals but tourists as well.

"We think it will anchor the tourist season for them," he said.

The tour is made possible through a $112,000 grant from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation, as were the films, which saw filmmakers and musician mentored by cinematographers, directors, composers and technicians.

"There are many aspects to this," MPP Michael Gravelle (Lib., Thunder Bay-Superior North) said of the partnerships between NOHFC and Science North.
