THUNDER BAY – With about two days to spare the Save the Finlandia crowdsourcing campaign has hit its goal.

The Indiegogo crowd fundraising campaign surpassed the $15,000 mark on Sunday, nearly 40 hours before the deadline to hit that total.

The campaign, which was started by Lakehead University student Crystal DiDiGiuseppe, received $15,200 from 306 donors as of 1 p.m. Sunday afternoon.

The money will be donated to the Finlandia Association, which oversees the Finnish Labour Temple and the world-famous Hoito Restaurant.

According to the fundraising page, “the funds will be used to refurbish the auditorium to bring low cost productions to the hall and revitalize the hall's role within the community as a cultural hub.”

The campaign had used a fixed fundraising model, which meant the organization would not have received any of the funds if it fell short of the goal.
