THUNDER BAY – A number of city letter carriers worked overtime on Saturday making special deliveries.
Local Canada Post employees partnered with the Regional Food Distribution Association for their sixth annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive, with 10,209 kilograms of food donations raised.
RFDA community services manager Brendan Carlin said the drive is valuable for area food banks.
“It means a lot, not just for the food but also raising awareness,” he said. “This really kick-starts our spring and summer season.”
City residents were encouraged to leave donations outside hanging from mailboxes or by the front door Saturday morning, with volunteers going throughout the city to gather donations.
Postal service employees were also collecting donations at grocery stores throughout the city as well as at the Thunder Bay Armoury and the mail processing plant.
Any donations missed on Saturday can be placed back outside on Monday and collected as postal services do regular mail delivery.
