Fort Fest 2015 to feature more cowbell, Blue Oyster Cult among headliners

THUNDER BAY -- If a little more cowbell is on your bucket list, then Fort William Historical Park is the place to be in July.

THUNDER BAY -- If a little more cowbell is on your bucket list, then Fort William Historical Park is the place to be in July.

On Monday the provincial park announced it will host the first annual Fort Fest, featuring Bret Michaels of Poison, Loverboy, Harlequin, Tommy Tutone, The Romantics, Great White and Blue Oyster Cult, whose Don’t Fear the Reaper was the basis for Saturday Night Live’s famed cowbell skit.

The two-day festival is scheduled for July 17 and 18, coinciding with PGA Tour Canada’s Staal Foundation Open.

“Fort William Historical Park is thrilled to announce Fort Fest and welcomes the community to celebrate with us,” said FWHP Park general manager Sergio Buonocore in a release.

“We are committed to regional economic development and hosting a large-scale music festival is a key strategic element in the promotion of tourism in the region. Not only is Fort Fest going to be one of the biggest summer concerts in Northern Ontario, it is also a multicultural celebration showcasing food, sport and entertainment from the Americas.”

Weekend RV camping available on site, but campers must stay a minimum of two nights. There will also be an after-party both nights at the David Thompson Astronomical Observatory, at a cost of $10 per event.
