THUNDER BAY -- The city is looking to spruce up some bump outs.
The curb extensions, or bump outs, were installed on Algoma Street on near Bay Street and Cornwall Avenue several years ago to calm traffic. Currently installed with temporary planter boxes, the city has put out a call to artists to put three-dimensional artwork on the extensions.
"It's really the next step in implementing the urban design guidelines for the street here," city cultural services and events supervisor Leah Bayly said.
After the June 22 deadline, the city will shortlist three of the ideas, which could include all or just one of the extensions. Those will be presented to the public for feedback with installation in the fall.
"We're really looking for something that's going to speak to the unique character of this area, fit in well with the streetscape and really be apart of the vibrancy of this neighourhood," Bayly said.
The entire project has a $60,000 budget.
