THUNDER BAY – Open Streets will be back for another year.

It was announced on Tuesday the initiative, which closes a city street to vehicular traffic to allow pedestrians, cyclists and other users freedom of the road, will return on Sept. 27.

This year the event will take place on a 1.4 kilometre section of Court Street running from John Street to Camelot Street.
Open Streets was held twice last year, both on Algoma Street which organizers said were highly successful.

“We were so happy with the public response and support that we received last year that we really wanted to keep the program running,” said program coordinator Ashley Priem in a statement.

The initiative costs about $10,000. Organizers have received $3,000 through a national grant and are seeking fundraising and sponsorship from businesses to help cover the remaining costs.
