THUNDER BAY – Hundreds gathered at the city’s waterfront Wednesday evening for this season’s fourth Summer in the Parks event.

The Thunder Bay Community Band, The Difference and Southern Comfort were among the performers for this week’s event.

This year Summer in the Parks is a Smoke-Free event. It’s a new initiative for the outdoor event, which intends to create a healthy, inviting environment for all members of the community.

Revealed in reports earlier this summer, the city will be paying an additional $1,800 for the weekly concert series, which was previously covered by the union, after the dissolving of the partnership between the local musicians union.

According to special events coordinator, Dave Mossman, the city is planning discussions with the musicians union to settle an agreement for hiring performers for future concert events.

The next Summer in the Parks event is scheduled for Aug. 5 at Marina Park from 6 to 9 p.m. and will feature performances from Sean Ashby, Harper & Midwest Kind, and the Greenbank Trio.
