Danny Mossa has his fingers crossed the weather holds out this week.

Not too hot, not too cold, said the president of the Canadian Lakehead Exhibition, as workers busily put the finishing touches Tuesday on a multitude of rides, games and food booths, the annual five-day fair set to open on Wednesday.

“Today everybody’s excited and everybody’s anticipating everybody to be here on time,” Mossa said. “We’re just waiting for a lot of our acts still to arrive and we’re getting everything set up. We just hope that the weather holds and we’ll have a great week.”

This year’s fair, as always, has a little something for everyone.

Thrill seekers will head straight to the rides, including the always popular Zipper and Ring of Fire, the Avalanche and of course, the Ferris wheels. For younger attendees there’s the Dragon Coaster, the Monster Slide and the Gravetron.

Those looking to pound down a few extra calorie this week will have plenty of tasty treats to choose from, a list that includes typical fair food like hot dogs and French fries, to pizza, cotton candy and ice cream.

And what would the CLE be without the games of chance, like bingo or the football toss?

“It’s a carnival event,” said Mossa. “It’s mixed in with the agricultural aspect of the fair. We have people coming in all the way from Sioux Lookout and up north, the (First Nation) reserves and everybody’s excited about it.

“It’s a fair. They have the midway, we have entertainers, we have a walking dinosaur that’s going to be walking around the grounds. We have a trampoline act. We’ve got a lot of things going on in one particular area and everybody’s going to have a chance to see everything.”

Advance tickets are still available at local and regional Metro locations until 9 p.m. on Tuesday. After that they’ll be available at the gate.

The 125th CLE runs from Wednesday at noon through Sunday at 11:45 p.m.
