THUNDER BAY -- Time is running out to see Thunder Bay's own Albertasaurus.

The Albertasaurus skeleton mold known as Albert is on display for one more week at the Thunder Bay Museum.

Albert was purchased from the Royal Ontario Museum 30 years ago when the Toronto-based museum moved to animatronic dinosaur exhibits.

Thunder Bay Museum curator Tory Tronrud said the Albertasaurus has timeless value in entertaining and educating children.

"They were very fast, very ferocious animals," he said.

"They were slightly smaller than the Tyrannosaurus Rex but still over 10 meters long. You wouldn't want to meet one of these fellows."

A partnership with the Tyrrell Museum in Alberta has brought a number of original and replica fossils to complement Thunder Bay's dinosaur.

Together, they create an entire exhibit of creatures that roamed the Earth 65 million years ago, just before the historic mass extinction.
