THUNDER BAY -- Don Rusnak likely hopes Question Period isn't as tough as Mr. Dunlop's class.

The Liberal MP for Thunder Bay-Rainy River faced some tough questions from grades four and five students at Ogden Public School Thursday afternoon.

"Do you ride in a limo?" one asked, clearly concerned about MP spending in a tough economy.

"Have you met Justin Trudeau?" asked a girl, no doubt alluding to the relationship MPs will have with the Prime Minister's Office.

And just when Rusnak thought he'd run the gauntlet, a gotcha question about federal jurisdiction.

"What level of government is responsible for garbage?" a question Rusnak had to answer twice, hounded by an electorate that voted for their principal and Green Party candidate  Christy Radbourne in the school's mock election last month.

It was on the campaign trail that Radbourne and Rusnak became friends. She told him about the school's election, a chance for students to learn about the political process.

"It was great. I think coming and speaking to kids, they renew your hope," he said.

"I just thought it was so worthwhile to come here."

Rusnak hopes the process gets more students engaged in politics and out to vote once they are of age.

Nine-year-old Kaia Price might do him one better than vote.

"I might just become a politician when I'm older," she said with a grin.

The grade four student said getting to meet Rusnak after she and her classmates followed the federal election so closely was great.

"It seemed very special to met because I loved learning about the election," she said.
