Festivals and Events Ontario has named its 2016 Top 100 festivals and events, and included in that list is this city’s Ribfest.

The Waterfront BIA's Ribfest takes place in the OLG casino parking lot and has been such a success that ribbers have had trouble keeping up with the demand. Last year’s Ribfest even saw at least one ribber run completely out of ribs.

The FEO list of Ontario’s Top 100 events honours the festivals the organization says are among the most well-known and respected in the province.

“Our government recognizes festivals and events as important economic drivers and we’re proud to support their efforts to create jobs, grow our economy and celebrate our diverse and vibrant cultural identity,” said the Honourable Michael Coteau, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport, in a media release issued Friday.

“I am pleased to join with Festival and Events Ontario in celebrating this year’s Top 100 recipients and I congratulate them all for achieving this honour.”

Submissions from FEO members were received for consideration in the fall of 2015 and were judged by an independent panel of judges.

The Waterfront BIA’s Ribfest joins The Dundas Cactus festival, the Kitchener Blues Festival, the Burlington Children’s festival and nearly a dozen others as top provincial events taking place in August.
