THUNDER BAY – A locally-produced short film is getting screen time with a national film tour.

The Lakehead canoe club is bringing Path of the Paddle Water Trail to the Paramount Theater on June 14 for the second Waterwalker Film Festival.

The 10-minute film documents local paddlers Carrie and Jon Nolan’s 1,265-kilometre journey across the Path of the Paddle water Trans Canada trail.

Event organizer Mila Milic said the Path of the Paddle Association is creating a 1,000-kilometre trail from Thunder Bay to the Manitoba border.

“Last year, two of them went all the way through trail,” Milic said.

“The film is all about the trip and the trials and tribulations of what a 1,000-kilometre expedition looks like.

The journey’s sole purpose was to document the route to create a guidebook.

“The film highlights some of the goofier and quirkier moments of what an expedition looks like, as well as some of the hardships,” Milic said.

The filmmakers will be at the event Tuesday evening to give filmgoers a chance to ask questions about the documentary.

The Waterwalker Film Festival is a fundraising event for the Lakehead Canoe Club.

Milic said there’s going to be a variety of films and events and all the proceeds support the programming and events that run through the club.

The festival takes place on June 14 at 7 p.m. at Paramount Theatre.

Admission is $10 in advance and $12 at the door.
