Another Terrace Bay Dragfest is in the books

THUNDER BAY -- For the last 17 years car buffs and racers have gathered on the August Long Weekend to seek out the fastest speed and the best time at the old Terrace Bay airport.

THUNDER BAY -- For the last 17 years car buffs and racers have gathered on the August Long Weekend to seek out the fastest speed and the best time at the old Terrace Bay airport.

In 1999 a group of automobile lovers got together to host a drag race and outdoor car show, and since then the Terrace Bay Dragfest has gotten bigger and bigger.

The roster now includes cars, trucks, dragsters, motorcycles and snowmachines.

With drivers coming in from as far away as California.

The Superior Classics car club is a non-profit agency and President Wes Fenton said the event has brought in so many people over the years that they have been able to donate over 320,000 dollars to various charities around the region.

Gerald Chartier is the head tech inspector for Dragfest and explained how the racing community works in solidarity with one another.

The races have even spurred the next generation as sons and daughters of former and current racers are now competing alongside their family. Like Thunder Bay local Michelle Difelice who has been racing for the last four years.

Organizers say that this year’s dragfest was a complete success with over 200 cars racing down the strip. And are looking forward to the events in 2017 with an even larger turnout.
