The 1981 Jeux Canada Games were a watershed event that left a legacy in Thunder Bay, including the Canada Games Complex.
Now, more than 30 years later, the city archives are looking back at that big event and organizing the records for future generations.
The archive has launched the exhibit in an effort to raise awareness about Heritage Week.
There is a small display set up at the building on Vickers Street and a full web exhibit has been established. The year 1981 marked the first time the Canada Games was held in Ontario.
Amateur athletes from all over the country came to participate in track and field, baseball, basketball and aquatic competitions.
The 30 boxes of information from the event were never indexed before, and were inaccessible to researchers.
But now, archivist intern Gillian Evans has been able to organize the records.
The online exhibit is available on the archives section of the city website.
The archive staff is also asking city residents to bring in their own mementos and share their stories from the Games, so they can add to the exhibit.
