A man is lucky to be alive, police say, after a near miss with a train early Tuesday.

A man is lucky to be alive, police say, after a near miss with a train early Tuesday.

According to the Thunder Bay Police Service, the man passed out between the tracks near Simpson and Hardisty streets and only awoke as a 70-metre train rolled over him, just 10 centimetres separating him from near certain tragedy.

The man managed to crawl away to safety and was taken to Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre to be checked out, but had no visible injuries.

Police warn the public to stay off the train tracks.
