THUNDER BAY -- Freezing rain and snow during this morning's commute was likely a factor in a couple of crashes that could have had serious consequences.

One of those collisions took place at the corner of  Red River Road and Algonquin Avenue, when a car slid into the back end of a school bus. There were no children on board the bus at the time.

Police say the driver of the car escaped with just minor injuries.

OPP responded to a single-vehicle accident around the same time on Highway 527, near Mount Baldy Road.
Police say a pickup truck lost control and rolled over into a ditch.

The 48-year-old female driver was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Officials with the OPP say this was just one of several mishaps brought on by slick road conditions.
