THUNDER BAY -- Police had to use pepper spray to arrest a knife-wielding man who threatened officers Christmas morning.

THUNDER BAY -- Police had to use pepper spray to arrest a knife-wielding man who threatened officers Christmas morning.

Thunder Bay Police Service officers arrived to the 400 block of Prince Arthur Boulevard to deal with a noise complaint just after 1 a.m. On Dec. 25.

When officers arrived the occupant of the building refused to answer the door for the officers.

A short time later the man opened the door and began waving a knife at police.

Police say the man was arrested at gun point after pepper spray was used, which led the suspect to drop the knife.

Ricky Nieminen, 51, of Thunder Bay was charged with assault with a weapon and is being held at the district jail as he awaits a court appearance scheduled for Thursday.
