Missing juror delays start of Moonias inquest

After more than six years, the formal start of the inquest into the death of Bruce Moonias will have to wait another few days.

After more than six years, the formal start of the inquest into the death of Bruce Moonias will have to wait another few days.

Due to what is being deemed a communications error, one juror of the five-member panel was not notified about Friday’s hearing.
This prompts the adjournment of the proceedings until Monday.

The inquest, which had the jury sworn in earlier this week, was delayed after coroner Dr. David Evans ruled in favour of allowing the proceedings to be webcast.

The inquest was scheduled to resume Friday after taking most of the week to implement the necessary tools for that webcast.

Moonias, 27, died in hospital in December 2006 after involvement with Ontario Provincial Police and Nishnabe Aski Police Service.

Evans scheduled the inquest to resume on Monday at 9 a.m.
