At least one person was sent to hospital after a Wednesday morning crash on the city’s north side.

Emergency crews were forced to use the jaws of life just before 9 a.m. to remove a woman passenger from the van she was trapped in. The woman was trapped inside the vehicle after an SUV and the van appeared to collide head on at High Street, between John and Bay Streets.

The collision forced officers with the Thunder Bay Police Service to close that section of High Street.

Road conditions appeared slippery as officers slid on foot along the hilly section of the road.

Paramedics took the woman to the hospital after she was removed from the vehicle. Her injuries are unknown at this time, but witnesses say she appeared conscious as she was placed into the ambulance on a stretcher.

The investigation continues.
