Airport's 2013 usage breaks passenger traffic record

By tbnewswatch.com

The Thunder Bay International Airport had had another record-breaking year for passenger traffic.

The number of airport users increased by 2.4 per cent last year, which is nearly 780,000  people.

The airport sees around 110,000 flights a year, and about 75 per cent of those are passenger flights. The airport has been making modifications to help cope with the increasing load.

Some of the modifications include expanding the parking lot and increasing the size of the runway.

Airport president Scott McFadden says there are a number of reasons why the passenger volumes have increased.

McFadden adds that the airport has also benefitted from the new direct flights to Chicago by United Airlines.

But the rising numbers may now be leveling out.  McFadden is predicting that 2014 will not likely see a similar increase in passenger volumes.
