OPP have identified and charged a trucker involved in a near-miss last month on Highway 11 that more than 2 million people witnessed after video of the incident went viral.

Police say 31-year-old Akmal Hayat of Milton, Ont. has been charged with careless driving, fail to remain and fail to report contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

On Jan. 4, south-bound Manitoba trucker Art Ginter was allegedly forced off the snow-covered highway by an oncoming tractor trailer attempting to pass a much slower Ministry of Transportation snow plow.

Ginter, who can be heard screaming in terror on the video, narrowly avoided the head-on collision, riding the guard rail before finally coming to a stop.

He’s estimated damage to his truck is in the $25,000 range.

Police say they tracked the man with the help of a dashboard video provided to them by the south-bound driver.
