An extreme wind chill warning for the Thunder Bay area remains in effect.

Environment Canada updated its wind chill warning just after 11 a.m. Wednesday. The warning predicts wind chill values will range from -40C to -45C tonight and into Thursday morning.

According to Environment Canada, the cold temperatures are the result of a cold front moving southward from Northern Manitoba. That cold front is bringing with it a fresh blast of Arctic air.

The cold temperatures will combine with north winds of 20 to 30 kilometres per hour.

During the wind chill warning, exposed skin can become frostbitten in less than 10 minutes.
