A hit-and-run drama that led to a trailer on fire at the Cascades Conservation area has ended in Sault Ste. Marie.
Police in the northeastern Ontario community arrested a couple after disabling their grey Ford pick-up truck with a spike belt late Wednesday.
Thunder Bay police, who will work in conjunction with Sault Ste. Marie OPP, say they believe the vehicle to be the same one they allege struck another vehicle at County Fair Plaza in Thunder Bay earlier in the day.
The couple, who were tracked to a camp in the 6000 block of Highway 17 North in Havilland Township, according to the Sault Star, were alleged to be towing the trailer in question.
The Star report says the truck ran over the spike belt and travelled for 20 kilometres before stopping, when the man, armed with a weapon, and his female passenger fled into the bush.
Thunder Bay police say the truck struck a parked sedan in the County Fair parking lot and fled the scene, last seen headed eastbound on Highway 11-17.
The OPP were warned to be on the lookout for the truck, believed to have Alberta plates, and trailer location. The driver, according to the Star, was wanted for allegedly stealing gas from a Marathon service station.
Charges are pending.
