A squirrel caught in a trap near Boulevard Lake has led to a warning to pet owners to be on the lookout for similar devices.

Thunder Bay police say a grey squirrel lost its leg and had to be put down by the city’s animal control department.

Police say there might be more of the traps out there.

“These types of devices can cause injury to animals and small children who may unexpectedly come upon the trap. Please be observant while walking in the area and repost any such devices located to the police,” said police spokeswoman Const. Julie Tilbury in a release issued Tuesday.

Anyone with information on who might have placed the trap is asked to call police at 684-1200 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
