THUNDER BAY -- A parade-like march to honour the memory of a local police officer who died during a training exercise is set for Thursday.

The May 15 march will feature Thunder Bay Police Service members along with law enforcement officers, emergency service personnel, members of city council and the Thunder Bay Police Services Board. The march will honour the memory of Const. Joseph Prevett.

The city’s lone K-9 officer suffered a suspected heart attack last week during a training session with his new dog, Timber, at Gravenhurst, Ont. Rushed to the hospital, the 50-year-old Prevett was pronounced dead a short time later.

There will be a march of officers and civilian members of various agencies from the old court house at 1805 Arthur Street starting just after 10 a.m. The march will travel east on Arthur Street to South Syndicate Avenue where it will proceed north to Donald Street.

The march is then scheduled to turn west on Donald Street to St. Patrick's Cathedral at South Archibald Street.

The funeral mass is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.

The mass is open to the public, but space will be limited.

A live streaming video feed will be available through Trinity United Church's website www.trinityuc.org.

The public who wish to show their respect are encouraged to attend anywhere along the parade route.

City police have released to following traffic notes:
Arthur Street will be closed for the march (about 30 minutes) just east of Kingsway to South Syndicate)

Parking in the vicinity of St. Patrick's Cathedral will be restricted from 8 a.m. till after 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 15

Donald Street will be closed from Vickers to May Streets after the funeral mass to allow for a final procession to Blake's Funeral home. Donald Street will reopen after 1 p.m.

We ask for the public's patience during the parade and funeral. Please plan your transportation accordingly to eliminate delays.
