Unifor local backs Liberal candidates

THUNDER BAY -- In something of a surprise move, Unifor Local 229 has thrown its endorsement in the provincial election campaign behind the two Liberal candidates in the Thunder Bay area.

THUNDER BAY -- In something of a surprise move, Unifor Local 229 has thrown its endorsement in the provincial election campaign behind the two Liberal candidates in the Thunder Bay area.

Local President Kari Jefford says the decision to abandon their traditional trade union support came only following incredible debate and meetings with local NDP and Liberal candidates.

A vote by the Local membership was unanimous in favour of Liberal support.

Jefford says the Liberal budget  would have provided important investments in public services and infrastructure.  She adds that it is clear the NDP Leader Andrea Horwarth is not listening to her supporters.

Jefford also says that it's their belief that a vote for Bill Mauro or Michael Gravelle is a vote for a northern voice.

Unifor Local 229 represents 3,500 health-care and educational workers across the region.
