THUNDER BAY -- City police are looking for a man who broke into a credit union twice Tuesday morning.
Thunder Bay Police Service officials say the investigation focuses on the break and enter and theft of the Copperfin Credit Union on Arundel Street.
“Our officers are currently in the initial stages of this investigation,” said media relations officer Julie Tilbury.
“We were not contacted until approximately 7 a.m. this morning when a customer was going to use the ATM machine and he noticed that the glass was broken and he contacted police.”
Police say officers were called to the business after a customer noticed broken glass near the front door by the ATM just before 7 a.m.
Video surveillance footage provided to the police by the credit union shows a man entering the credit union after breaking the glass at about 4:10 a.m.
But the man leaves, only to return a short time later with his clothing changed.
The suspect’s bizarre return-trip and change of clothes may have been his undoing, as the video footage shows him maskless as he walks about the credit union during his second visit. He did leave with credit union with stolen money.
Police say the suspect is described as a Caucasian man standing about five-feet-nine-inches tall with an average build.
During the initial break in he wore grey baggy pants, a blue hoodie with red cloth covering his face and grey mitts. In the second incident he was wearing red and black checkered pants, a grey hoodie with NIKE written on the front.
He had a black back pack and was wearing red "CANADA" mitts.
Police are looking for the public to assist in identifying the male in the surveillance video that is being released to the media.
“At this point, we are releasing the video because we feel the images are quite good. We know that somebody out there will recognize who this male is,” Tilbury said.
