THUNDER BAY -- A fifth person has been charged in connection with the city’s fifth homicide case of the year.

Thunder Bay Police Service officials on Friday confirmed that they had arrested James Anthony Chapais, 33, of Thunder Bay, Thursday on Academy Drive without incident.

Chapais is the fifth person to be charged with second-degree murder in connection with a homicide case that began after the discovery of a burned body on July 18 in the Intercity area.

Chapais remains in custody and is expected to make a court appearance Aug. 1.

Police say  Lloyd Oskineegish, 44, of Wunnumin Lake, died following a violent incident in a wooded area near the Harbour Expressway and Field Street. Before Chapais’ arrest, city police had arrested and charged four others in connection with Oskineegish’s death.

Police arrested Kevin Wabason, 38, of Thunder Bay, on Wednesday. Meanwhile,  Keith Mishenene, 21, Felton Sakanee, 26, and Larissa Shingabis, 20, were all arrested shortly after Oskineegish's remains were discovered.

Police have previously told media that the suspects were known to the victim.

While some intoxicants may have played a role, the investigation is ongoing and those facts are still being collected.

In a release issued earlier this week by police, Thunder Bay Police Service Chief J.P. Levesque said law enforcement officials are aware the area where the body was discovered is a beacon for unwanted and violent activities and stressed the need to make it less attractive to these type of activities.

In 2012, the body of Adam Yellowhead was found in the area.

Joseph Wesley was convicted of manslaughter and received an eight-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to the charge.
