Three arrested, two injured following early morning assault

THUNDER BAY -- Three men have been arrested while another two were sent to the hospital after an early morning assault Tuesday.

Thunder Bay Police Service officials received a 911 call just before 3 a.m. to assist a 21-year-old man who had been assaulted by three men.

The victim was assaulted on his way home from a Memorial Avenue establishment by three men. Police say the men followed the victim as he left the business. After a confrontation, the three men began their assault.

The victim defended himself and managed to escape. During the original struggle, one of the accused was stabbed.

The victim was chased down by three men and assaulted again on South Hill Street. During this second altercation, the victim was struck in the head with a rock. The victim was able to get home and call police after his attackers left the area.

Police say an ambulance took the victim to the hospital.

Police officers later received a second call about a man who had been stabbed. Officers found the man at a Memorial Avenue hotel along with two other men believed to be involved in the previous assault.

A 26-year-old man was also sent to the hospital by ambulance for medical attention.

All three men were arrested and have been charged with assault with a weapon.

Justin Allen , 26, of Barrie, Ont., and Patryk Litwin, 32, of Tottenham, Ont., appeared in court and have been released with a future court date.

The 26-year-old man was sent to the hospital has also been charged and released at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Center on a Promise to Appear.

The investigation is continuing.
