THUNDER BAY -- Construction may lead to traffic woes at a busy north-side intersection for the next week.

Construction crews have begun work at the corner of Red River Road and Junot Avenue. While the streets will remain open, the traffic flow will be restricted.

Work crews discovered that the wiring system under the street was damaged by the past few winters, and as a result they will be replacing that wiring.

For the time being, overhead cables have been connected to keep the traffic signals working.

City of Thunder Bay Project Engineer Rick Harms says the way it is set up now, the afternoon rush hour should not be affected by the construction.

Harms adds that by early next week, the underground work should be wrapped up and the additional work that will continue after that time should not be disruptive to traffic.
