THUNDER BAY – The driver of a pickup truck who struck a pedestrian early Sunday morning has been charged with impaired driving.

The collision occurred shortly after 3 a.m. at the intersection of the Thunder Bay Expressway and Red River Road, leaving the 27-year-old male pedestrian with what police have called “serious injuries.”

OPP officials on Monday confirmed the driver of the pickup truck now faces impaired driving charges.

The pedestrian was rushed to Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre in critical condition.

Police say his condition has since improved.

The right exit from Red River Road and left turn lanes from Dawson Road onto the Expressway were closed for much of Sunday morning as the OPP, with assistance from the Thunder Bay Police Service, conducted their investigation.
