THUNDER BAY -- The union representing the city's professional firefighters has selected its preferred candidates for mayor and city council.

The Firefighter's Association endorsed all the incumbent council members, along with current mayor Keith Hobbs.

Notably, the list of endorsements only names the four incumbents in the at-large category, and not a single new candidate.

This is the first time in recent memory that the firefighters have made a political endorsement.

The union's president says they want a city council with a proven record in public safety.

The Firefighter's Association reached its decision after sending a questionnaire about the fire service to each candidate.
