THUNDER BAY -- Jian Ghomeshi will not be making an appearance in Thunder Bay.

The former CBC host was supposed to be the guest speaker at the Alzheimer Society of Thunder Bay's Alzheimer Rendezvous on Nov. 27.

As of Wednesday the society still wasn't sure if Ghomeshi would make the appearance.

His attendance came into question now that the radio personality appears to be at the centre of an unfolding sex scandal that now allegedly involves eight women detailing harassment and violent sexual encounters.

But on Thursday morning society executive director Alison Denton sent out a media release saying that they had canceled Ghomeshi's appearance.

A new speaker will be announced in the coming days. The society is hoping to raise $50,000 in order to help more than 2,600 people across the region.
