THUNDER BAY -- Police are investigating a single-vehicle crash that knocked out telephone, Internet and television services to a portion of the city as a hit-and-run case.

Officials with the Thunder Bay Police Service confirmed the case was a hit-and-run late Monday morning. About 60 Tbaytel customers are without telephone landlines as a result of the crash.

Police say a Ford pickup truck went off Goods Road at the intersection of Woodcrest Road and struck a Tbaytel telephone switch box just after midnight Monday.

The box was left demolished, which led to the service disruption for area residents.

Police believe the damage to the switch box to be nearly $50,000.

Crews are now working on repairing the damaged equipment.
