THUNDER BAY -- Winter has put an end to construction on Arthur Street.

Completion of the ongoing construction on the major southside roadway will have to wait until next summer as it has become too cold to complete this year.

City of Thunder Bay Project Engineer Rick Harms says because of the substantial work needed underground, only about half the actual work was able to be completed before the stoppage.

“It was also a condition of the contract to keep the road open to traffic, one lane in each direction,” adds Harms.

This, plus ensuring area businesses didn’t have their access cutoff, madea for a complicated project.

Harms says the city expects the project will resume around mid-May and then completed by the end of June 2015.
