THUNDER BAY -- Police have charged a male driver in a Monday morning auto-pedestrian, hit-and-run crash.

Police say officers responded to the intersection of Balmoral and William Streets, near the Health Unit, after a 35-year-old pedestrian was struck by a dark grey minivan making a left turn.

The vehicle pulled to the curb and stopped momentarily, but then fled the scene.

Police are looking for witnesses to the crash, and urging the driver to come forward and make a report at the police station.

Paramedics brought the pedestrian to the hospital, but police say his injuries were not reported as being serious.

All drivers are reminded that it is a criminal offence to fail to stop and render assistance at a collision scene when someone is injured.

The driver in the above incident is required to give identification in the form of name and address to the injured person at the scene.

Under the Highway Traffic Act, there is an obligation to make a police report any time that any injury occurs, or combined damages exceed $1,000.
