THUNDER BAY -- With nine days to go before Christmas, the Salvation Army’s kettle campaign is still about $70,00 short of its $175,000 goal.

To date the charity has raised $104,670, with a last-minute push planned through a Brave the Cold event that will feature community leaders and well-known personalities taking up the charge at the Thunder Centre LCBO location.

“The kettle funds are helping with our Christmas needs but they are especially important in ensuring that we are able to meet the needs throughout the coming year,” said Maj. Rob Kerr, the local chapter’s executive director.

“Demands continue for our services such as the soup van that feeds up to 50 to 100 people per night or the food bank that provides hampers to families and individuals with limited financial resources,” said Maj. Rob Kerr, the local chapter’s executive director.

Donations will be accepted at locations across the city until 1 p.m. on Dec. 24. They can also be made online at www.fillthekettle.com or by texting HOPE4038 to 45678, which will net the campaign a $5 donation.

“The Salvation Army appreciates the support we receive from the community and is certain that our objective will be reached.  Thank you for informing the public of the campaign results to date and encouragement to help us reach our goal,” Kerr said.
