THUNDER BAY -- Concerned Northwood residents are calling on city council to continue improvements to city infrastructure.

The request comes from a group of residents who remain concerned about area flooding.

Valerie Cameron warned council not to forget about the events of May 2012, when a major flood left many homes in Northwood and the East End damaged by flood waters.

“When you look at insurance, we have insurance companies that aren’t insuring our homes anymore,” she told council at city hall Monday evening.

“So it is very difficult being in a home that you can’t leave because you aren’t sure if we’re going to get a storm or if we’re going to get flooded.”

Thunder Bay Mayor Keith Hobbs said the 2015 budget season is likely to be a challenging one, echoing statements made by other councillors throughout the Monday evening meeting.

The mayor added that it could take a substantial tax increase to complete the infrastructure work the concerned residents are asking for.
