THUNDER BAY -- Gas prices in the city continued to trend downward leading into Christmas week.

As of Monday morning, the lowest price at the pumps was found at the Superstore, where regular gas is being sold at $1.049. Meanwhile, the highest price recorded by the online gas price watchdog, ontariogasprices.com, was $1.169.

Two gas bars in the city, the Esso Dawson and Mapleward Roads and the Esso on John Street Road and Valley Street, were selling fuel at that recorded high.

Meanwhile, many neighbouring Fort William First Nations gas bars have begun to flirt with prices below 90-cents-a-litre, and THP Variety and Gas Bar is event listing its price  as 89.5-cents-a-litre. The most expensive gas bar reporting from Fort William First Nations was FCG, which sold fuel for 97.5-cents-a-litre.

Most motorists in Thunder Bay, who aren’t actively seeking out the cheapest gas by the penny, can expect to pay $1.059 to $1.067. Some gas bars are listing prices closer to $1.099 and up.
