Second suspect charged in homicide of Richard Spence

THUNDER BAY -- A second arrest has been made in connection to a December homicide investigation.

The body 62-year-old Richard Spence was found inside a Secord Street residence early Sunday, Dec. 21, 2014. His cousin, 45-year-old Monica Spence, was charged with second-degree murder soon after that discovery was made.

On Friday afternoon, Thunder Bay Police Service officials confirmed that they had made a second arrest in relation to that case.

The most recent suspect was identified as the boyfriend to Monica Spence.

The man appeared in court Friday where he was formally charged with second-degree murder.

Daniel Debassige, 39, was remanded in custody to the Thunder Bay District Jail and will appear again in court on Jan. 15.

The post mortem was completed in Toronto on Dec. 22 2014.

The cause of death is not being released.
