OPP recover stolen vehicle after Highway 11 crash

FORT FRANCES, Ont. -- Provincial police officers responding to a collision on Highway 11 managed to recover a stolen vehicle.

FORT FRANCES, Ont. -- Provincial police officers responding to a collision on Highway 11 managed to recover a stolen vehicle.

Official with the Rainy River detachment of the OPP say officers responded to a single motor vehicle crash on Highway 11, nearly two kilometres west of Gehl Lake, just before 10 p.m. Sunday.

When officers arrived they found an unoccupied red pickup truck in the south ditch. The engine was still running and it sported Saskatchewan licence plates.

Officers soon learned the licence plates were stolen from Swift Current, Sask., on Jan. 8, and the pickup truck was stolen from Olds, Alta., on Jan. 7.

The Fort Frances OPP Crime Unit and Fort Frances OPP Detachment Scenes of Crime officer are working in consultation with the Swift Current Detachment of RCMP to continue the investigation.
