THUNDER BAY -- Three people charged in last year’s Canada Day murder returned to court Friday morning.

Carl Rae, Kyle Stoney and Becky Mamakwa, who all face one count of second-degree murder in connection with the death of 52-year-old Christopher Adams, appeared at the Thunder Bay Courthouse.

Their lawyers, Michael Hargadon, George Joseph and David Dubinsky, are moving the case forward with a focus hearing scheduled for Feb. 27.

Adams was violently assaulted outside city hall at the corner of May and Donald Streets in the early morning hours of July 1. He later died in hospital on July 8.

Rae and Mamakwa were arrested shortly after the incident. They were originally charged with aggravated assault before it was revised in the fall. Stoney was later arrested in November.

Shortly after the incident police publicly said robbery was believed to be a motive.

Rae and Stoney remain in custody. Mamakwa had previously been released on bail.

None of the charges have been proven in court.
