Body recovered from Kam River

THUNDER BAY -- Police have recovered a body from the Kaministiquia River. The Thunder Bay detachment of the OPP began searching for a missing Brandon, Man. man on Tuesday after a request from the Brandon Police Service to assist in locating the man.

THUNDER BAY -- Police have recovered a body from the Kaministiquia River. 

The Thunder Bay detachment of the OPP began searching for a missing Brandon, Man.  man on Tuesday after a request from the Brandon Police Service to assist in locating the man.

On Thursday morning, members of the underwater search team entered the Kaministiquia River and recovered a man's body after a short search near a dock, not far from where his vehicle was discovered. He was wearing a green military uniform with a Canadian badge. Police have not yet publicly identified the body.

"Right now we have to confirm positive identification of the victim so nothing further will be released until that is done," OPP Const. Diana Cole said.

Officers found the man’s vehicle along the Silver Falls Road near the Kaministiquia River.  The OPP then searched the immediate area, but were unable to find the man.

Police believed the man may have entered the water, which led to the OPP’s underwater search and recovery unit, forensic identification unit and emergency response team.  joining the search Thursday.

A post-mortem examination will be conducted soon.

No foul play is suspected.
