THUNDER BAY -- Power has now been restored to more than 1,000 Hydro One customers around the Thunder Bay area, following a collision between a transport and a hydro pole Monday night.

The outage occurred around 7 p.m. when a tractor trailer went off of Highway 102 near Strawberry Creek.

At one point, roughly 6,200 people in Oliver-Paipoonge and other rural communities were without electricity.

Repair crews from Hydro One were able to restore power to most of the homes within a few hours, but about 150 residents in the area had to wait until Tuesday afternoon before the power was back on.

Officials with the OPP say it was one of two accidents involving transports on Highway 102 last night.

The other one closed the highway for more than four hours.
