Man opens fire on home after argument about dog

THUNDER BAY -- Police say they’ve arrested a man who allegedly shot at a neighbour’s home following an argument about a dog. Thunder Bay detachment OPP officials say the incident took place on Saturday, Feb. 21, at a Gorham Township home.

Thunder Bay detachment OPP officials say the incident took place on Saturday, Feb. 21, at a Gorham Township home. At about 7 p.m. a man approached the home to talk about an issue concerning a dog.

After a brief discussion, the man verbally threatened the dog’s owner. The man then went to his vehicle in the driveway and retrieved what was believed by the homeowner to be a handgun.

The man then began shooting at the home.

Investigation later revealed the handgun involved was an air pistol. There were no injuries reported.

Officers from the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police responded and began to search for the male and his vehicle.

On Sunday, Feb. 22, an officer was on patrol in Gorham Township when he located a vehicle that matched the description of the vehicle in question. The officer spoke to the vehicle owner and determined that it was the same man suspected of shooting at the home.

Joshua Locke, 22, of Gorham Township, was arrested and charged with the following offences:

  • Uttering Threats
  • Discharge Air gun or Pistol with Intent to Wound
  • Assault with a Weapon
  • Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
  • Imitation Firearm Use While Committing Offence
  • Mischief under $5000, all contrary to the Criminal Code.


He was held for a video court appearance and remanded into custody.
