THUNDER BAY -- A man accused of being involved in a violent incident that sent a mother and her young daughter to hospital with serious injuries now faces charges of attempted murder.

Thunder Bay Police Service officials confirmed Friday afternoon that a 43-year-old man connected to an investigation focusing on a James Street South home had been charged with two counts of attempted murder and two counts of aggravated assault.

Police say two victims, a 29-year-old woman and her seven-year-old daughter, in a serious domestic violence incident remain in hospital recovering from the knife wounds sustained during this altercation.

The efforts by both the Thunder Bay Police Service patrol officers and paramedics who responded to this call were instrumental in providing first aid to the victims who both were suffering from life threatening injuries.

The 43-year-old male suspect was taken into custody at the James Street home, but has also received medical attention for self-inflicted wounds.

He appeared in a Thunder Bay courtroom Friday morning to face the charges against him.

The name of the accused is being withheld to protect the identity of the victims in this domestic related assault. He has been remanded into custody to the district jail and will be appearing in court on March 6, 2015.

The forensic examination of the James Street home has been completed. The investigation continues by the Criminal Investigations Branch.
