Man accused in vicious assault in James Street home remanded

THUNDER BAY – The suspect charged in a domestic violence case that sent a mother and her young daughter to hospital with serious knife wounds remains in custody.

THUNDER BAY – The suspect charged in a domestic violence case that sent a mother and her young daughter to hospital with serious knife wounds remains in custody.

The 43-year-old man, who is charged with two counts of attempted murder and two counts of aggravated assault, appeared via video court at the Thunder Bay Courthouse on Friday.

Thunder Bay Police Service officers were called to a James Street South home in the early morning hours of Feb. 26 where they found a 29-year-old woman and her seven-year-old daughter suffering from life-threatening injuries.

The suspect, who has been identified as the woman’s ex-husband, was taken into custody and received medical attention for what police describe as self-inflicted wounds.

A baby boy was found unharmed in the residence.

The name of the accused is being withheld to protect the identity of the victims in this domestic related assault. 

The suspect has been remanded to March 12, where he is scheduled to appear in bail court.
