THUNDER BAY -- A small garage fire on South Marks Street caused extensive damage but no one was hurt, firefighters say.

Platoon Chief Brant Kiessig said a resident reported heavy smoke coming from the garage.

“He had recently come out of the garage. He was doing some work in there and noticed heavy smoke when he came out of his home,” Kiessig said.

“The units arrived and we achieved knock-down fairly quickly before the fire spread to an adjacent garage.

“The damage to the interior of the garage is pretty extensive.”

No one was inside the garage at the time the fire broke out.

The investigation continues.
