THUNDER BAY -- A local OPP officer will be sentenced for fraud this spring.

Det.-Const. Rory Thompson was arrested in May 2014 and charged with eight counts of theft under $5,000 along with a single count of fraud.

On Jan. 12, he pleaded guilty to a charge of fraud under $5,000 for using an OPP credit card to purchase gasoline, fuel, parts and vehicle servicing for his personal vehicle between June 2012 and March 2014.

A sentencing hearing was originally set for March 10, but the judge had to recuse himself because of a potential conflict of interest.

Thompson's lawyer Gil Labine appeared for him at the Thunder Bay Courthouse Friday morning and a sentencing hearing before a new judge is set for May 4.

Thompson remains suspended from the police force with pay.
